I had gone through a major move due to a job change that put me behind on my credit debt. I found myself using my credit cards to pay for ordinary monthly expenses. Very quickly thing got out of control. I could not even afford the minimum payments much less pay more to try and pay down this debt. Once I went late the creditors raised my rates and added large amounts of late fees. I had no choice but to look for a solution to pay this debt as I would never be able to do it on my own. I did not look at Bankruptcy as I did not want to run from my debts, I wanted to make good on them.

I learned in the program that debt settlement is hard work, but I feel what got me through it was knowing that someone was there and they were taking care of things. The most frustrating part of the process was the creditor calls. I was so worried that I almost cancelled my program due to the creditor threats. Through talking with my counselors I learned that the harassing calls were just a trick by the creditors to get me to make payments. Even when they threatened lawsuits my counselors told me what to do and I would do it. By doing what they told me to do the calls were less and settlements were given. It always seemed like that just about the time I was ready to call them and say what was going on they would call me. I think they are good at keeping you informed helping you out every step of the way. Anything that came up they were there to help me out. I didn’t get different answers, like someti111es you call some place and get one thing and then get something different from someone else so you really don't know what to do. I got the same answers every time I called in, they were very consistent.

Over the entire process my counselors kept me on track, even through a job change when I temporarily could not afford more monthly payments. They worked with me to get the end result. I learned in the program that over time, once money was saved, settlements could and did get reached. They settled all of my credit cards which reached or surpassed all of my expectations. I would recommend debt settlement to anyone who has credit card debt.
